Exfil, a multiplayer FPS game, is now free to play on Steam for a limited time. The free trial is live from December 22 and will run until December 31. This gives PC players a full week to try the game at no cost.
The free play event comes with a large update that aims to refresh the overall experience. Exfil struggled to keep players after its launch in late 2024. Player numbers dropped heavily over the past few months, which made it hard for the game to survive as a live service title.
To bring players back, developer Tiny Leviathan has released one of the biggest updates so far. The update adds two new maps called Stone Dragon and Malverde Cartel. It also introduces 11 new weapons, several new attachments, gadgets, and improved gun mechanics.
Gameplay changes are a big part of this update. Players can now mount weapons on surfaces, hold their breath while aiming, and feel more impact when taking damage. Weapon ballistics have been reworked, and audio and visual effects have been improved to make gunfights feel more realistic.
One of the standout additions is helicopter support, which players can now call in during matches. Enemy AI has also been upgraded in PvPvE modes. AI enemies are now smarter, use grenades, and move more naturally during combat. This should make battles feel more intense and immersive.
The update also adds new accessibility options. These include a field of view slider and colorblind modes, which were missing earlier.
Exfil is still in early access, so it is not fully polished. However, the free trial makes it easy to test the game and see how much it has improved. For players who enjoy the experience, the game is also available at a 30 percent discount until January 5.
