The Epic Games Store has revealed its eighth mystery free game of the holiday season, and this time it is a major AAA title. PC gamers can now claim The Callisto Protocol for free as part of Epic’s ongoing daily giveaway event.
The game is available to download and keep forever, but only for a limited time. Users have 24 hours to add it to their library before Epic unlocks the next mystery game on December 25.
The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. The story is set in the future on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons, where a high-security facility called Black Iron Prison is located. Players take on the role of Jacob Lee, a space pilot who is wrongly jailed before a deadly outbreak turns the prison into a nightmare.
The game was created by Glen Schofield, who is also known for his work on the Dead Space series. Because of this, the game shares several familiar ideas with the classic horror franchise, especially its focus on tension, atmosphere, and close combat.
Combat in The Callisto Protocol mixes melee and ranged weapons. Players are encouraged to fight at close range and use tools like a gravity-based device that can push or pull enemies. Survival often depends on quick thinking, careful movement, and using the environment to your advantage.
The free offer is part of Epic Games Store’s holiday promotion, which runs until December 31. A new free game is revealed every day, with the next title unlocking at 8 am PT on December 25.
So far, Epic has already given away several popular games during the event, including Hogwarts Legacy, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and Paradise Killer. With a few days still left in the promotion, PC gamers can expect more surprise giveaways before the year ends.
