OpenAI has rolled out a new version of ChatGPT Images, powered by its latest image generation model, GPT-Image-1.5. The update focuses on one clear goal. It wants to help users get exactly the image they have in mind, with less effort and less waiting. Whether someone is creating an image from scratch or editing an existing photo, the new model promises better accuracy, cleaner edits, and much faster results.
One of the biggest improvements is speed. Images now generate up to four times faster than before, which makes experimenting with ideas much easier. Users can also continue creating new images while others are still processing. This removes the long pauses that often break creative flow, especially for designers and content creators who need to iterate quickly.
Editing is another area where the new model shows clear progress. When users ask for changes to an uploaded image, ChatGPT Images now sticks more closely to the request. It changes only what is asked for and keeps everything else intact. Details like lighting, composition, facial features, and overall style remain consistent, even across multiple edits. This makes the tool more reliable for practical use cases such as photo fixes, clothing or hairstyle try-ons, and brand-related visuals.
The model can handle complex ideas that involve changing styles, adding text, or reworking layouts, while still preserving the essence of the original image. Users can either describe what they want in plain language or use preset styles and ideas available in the new Images section inside ChatGPT. This lowers the barrier for people who want to explore visually but are not comfortable writing detailed prompts.

Instruction following is noticeably better in this release. The model understands detailed requests more accurately and maintains correct relationships between different elements in an image. Text rendering has also taken a step forward, with better handling of smaller and denser text. This makes the tool more useful for posters, infographics, mockups, and even code or markdown-style layouts shown inside images.
Alongside the model update, OpenAI has introduced a dedicated Images space within ChatGPT. Available through the sidebar on chatgpt.com and the mobile app, this section is designed to make image creation faster and more intuitive. It includes preset filters, trending prompts, and a one-time likeness upload, allowing users to reuse their appearance across multiple creations without repeatedly searching their photo gallery.

The company also acknowledges that the model is not perfect yet. While quality has improved in areas like rendering many small faces and producing more natural-looking images, some limitations remain. Certain styles, multilingual text, and complex scientific visuals can still produce inconsistent results. OpenAI says these issues are known and will be addressed in future updates.
For developers and businesses, GPT-Image-1.5 is now available through the API with the same improvements seen in ChatGPT Images. Image inputs and outputs are around 20 percent cheaper compared to the previous version.
