Xiaomi Reportedly Testing a Smartphone with a Massive 9,000 mAh Battery

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a smartphone with a massive 9,000 mAh battery. The information comes from popular Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, who claims that Xiaomi’s upcoming device will not only feature a huge battery but also support 100W fast charging.

The combination of a huge battery and ultra-fast charging seems ambitious and shows how brands are now focusing on improving battery life without compromising on design.

In the past, smartphones with large batteries usually came with major trade-offs. For example, the Ulefone Armor 26 Ultra featured a huge 15,600 mAh battery, but it was incredibly bulky at 25.5mm thick. Similarly, the Oukitel WP35 offered an 11,000 mAh battery, but again, weight and size were far from user-friendly.

However, things are clearly changing in 2025. Both Xiaomi and Realme have been experimenting with new silicon-carbon battery technology, which enables higher-capacity batteries without significantly increasing size or weight.

Recently, Realme showcased a phone prototype with a 15,000 mAh battery packed inside an 8.89mm thin body, which was quite impressive. While that phone has not yet hit the market, Xiaomi’s 9,000 mAh model seems to be moving beyond just a concept stage.

Xiaomi already has experience with large batteries. The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max comes with a 7,500 mAh battery. It shows that the company has been pushing limits for a while. Now the company has finalized a phone with a 9000 mAh battery and 100W charging. It has already tested a 10,000 mAh prototype for offering even bigger batteries in a phone.

There’s no confirmation yet on which Xiaomi or Redmi model will feature this massive battery. Some leaks suggest it could be part of the Redmi Turbo 5 lineup, but other reports indicate that the phone will only feature a 7,500 mAh cell.

It is also uncertain whether this battery beast will make it outside China. In the past, Xiaomi’s Chinese models with high-capacity silicon-carbon batteries were launched globally with smaller battery sizes due to safety and certification limits. So even if Xiaomi launches the phone with a 9000 mAh battery, the global variant might not get the same massive cell.

Still, if this 9,000 mAh phone becomes a reality, it could redefine what we expect from smartphone battery life.
