Valve has officially announced three major additions to its Steam hardware lineup: Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller. All three devices are set to launch in early 2026 and mark Valve’s biggest hardware expansion since the Steam Deck.
Steam Machine
The Steam Machine is designed to bring your entire Steam Library to more places with serious performance. It packs over six times the power of the Steam Deck and is capable of running AAA games at up to 4K 60 FPS. It runs SteamOS 3, Valve’s gaming-focused operating system, offering a smooth plug-and-play experience with all the flexibility of a PC.
The device features a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU, paired with 16GB DDR5 RAM and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. It comes in two storage variants: 512GB and 2TB. Storage is also further expandable via microSD.
Despite its power, the Steam Machine is compact. It is roughly a 6-inch cube and designed to be cool and quiet. It includes DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, USB-C, and multiple USB-A ports, along with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and a built-in wireless adapter for the Steam Controller.
An LED strip on the front provides system feedback and can be customized with colors or animations. The Steam Machine also serves as a perfect host for game streaming to other devices like the Steam Deck or the Steam Frame.
Steam Frame
The Steam Frame is Valve’s new all-in-one wireless VR headset, designed for both VR and non-VR gaming. It can stream your entire Steam Library or even run games natively, thanks to its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM.
It features 2160×2160 LCD displays per eye, custom pancake lenses, and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Valve’s new Foveated Streaming technology uses eye-tracking to deliver sharper visuals where you’re looking, improving performance and reducing bandwidth use.
For connectivity, Steam Frame supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and comes with a 6GHz wireless adapter for low-latency streaming. Its modular headstrap includes built-in audio drivers and a battery at the back for balanced comfort.
The Steam Frame Controllers support both VR and traditional games with magnetic thumbsticks, capacitive finger tracking, and all standard gamepad inputs. Each controller runs on a single AA battery, offering up to 40 hours of playtime.
Developers can also apply for a Steam Frame Developer Kit to ensure better game compatibility across the Steam ecosystem.
Steam Controller
The new Steam Controller brings Valve’s best features together in a sleek, comfortable design. It includes magnetic thumbsticks, trackpads, gyro aiming, grip-sense controls, and HD haptics for a more immersive feel.
A small device called the Steam Controller Puck handles both wireless connection and charging. It supports up to four controllers and offers low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. The controller can also connect via Bluetooth or USB-C.
Designed for Steam Input, players can customize controls for any game. It works seamlessly across devices, including PC, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame.
A Unified Steam Ecosystem
With these new devices, Valve is building a powerful, interconnected gaming ecosystem. Steam Machine brings PC gaming anywhere, Steam Frame delivers cutting-edge VR and streaming, and Steam Controller ties everything together with precision and comfort.
