Perplexity has officially launched its Comet AI browser on Android. It gives mobile users a new way to search, browse, and interact with the web. The browser first appeared earlier this year as an exclusive perk for users subscribed to Perplexity’s expensive $200-per-month Pro plan. Last month, it opened up to everyone, and now Android users can download it for free from the Play Store.
Comet is built around Perplexity’s AI assistant. Instead of traditional browsing, the app focuses on helping users understand information faster. It can summarise pages, answer follow-up questions, and even respond to voice commands. The Android version retains most of the desktop features, including the AI workspace that keeps track of everything you have been researching.
Perplexity has been open about its long-term goal with Comet. By launching its own browser, the company wants to better understand user behaviour and deliver more personalised search results and ads. This push is part of a bigger trend where tech companies are tying AI directly into browsing. It has already raised concerns from groups like Amazon, especially around how AI may affect shopping results. Security experts have also warned that AI-powered browsers could create new opportunities for scams if users rely too heavily on automated suggestions.
Despite that, Comet offers a fresh way to browse the web. It is free, fast, and aims to become a smarter alternative to traditional mobile browsers. Perplexity says more features are coming soon, including improved voice interactions and deeper cross-device syncing.
