LG has rolled out cloud gaming support on its Smart TVs in India, and this update is much bigger than it looks. The company has introduced the LG Gaming Portal, a new hub inside webOS that lets users play thousands of games instantly, without a console or PC. With the Xbox app now officially available, LG TVs can directly stream more than 4,000 cloud-supported titles and over 600 free games.

This move came soon after Microsoft introduced Xbox Cloud gaming in India. It shows that the Indian gaming market is booming and companies are now realising its potential.

Cloud gaming has always sounded promising, but slow internet and platform limitations have held it back. India now has faster broadband and 5G access in cities, and LG seems ready to take advantage of that moment. The Xbox app on LG Smart TVs can deliver big titles like Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and even indie gems like Raji: An Ancient Epic. All games are playable through a simple Bluetooth or wired controller.

The Gaming Portal itself works as a unified hub where users can access content from Microsoft and other partners. LG is focusing on convenience: you turn on the TV, launch the Gaming Portal, pick a title, and start playing. It feels closer to browsing a streaming service than launching a traditional game.

Unlike most TVs, LG models have been pushing gaming features for years, and this update finally puts those specs to the test.

Here is what LG TVs bring to cloud gaming:

  • G-Sync compatibility
  • AMD FreeSync Premium
  • VRR up to 165Hz
  • 0.1ms pixel response time (Intertek-certified)
  • Clear MR 10000 motion clarity

Even though cloud gaming does not reach 165Hz, these features help reduce input lag and motion blur. In real-world use, this could mean smoother controls, cleaner visuals, and a more responsive gameplay experience. Many consoles still struggle to deliver this level of fluidity, so cloud gaming on a high-end LG OLED TV might actually feel better in some scenarios.

Of course, the performance will depend heavily on your internet speed. Without stable broadband or 5G, cloud gaming will still feel inconsistent. But for homes with fast Wi-Fi, this could be a major upgrade.

It is too early to say, but cloud gaming on TVs does raise a big question. If your smart TV can stream almost every major Xbox game, why buy a console at all?

It will not replace traditional gaming today, but it could change how families or casual gamers choose their next entertainment device.

The LG Gaming Portal is rolling out to compatible LG webOS Smart TVs from 2021 to 2025 models across India. The update is being pushed in phases through the TV’s software update system. Once available, users can access the portal directly from the home screen and start gaming with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
