After more than a decade of waiting, the long-delayed sci-fi horror game Routine finally has a release date. Developer Lunar Software and publisher Raw Fury have announced that the game will launch on December 4, 2025 for PC and Xbox. It will also be available day one on Game Pass.
Routine has had one of the longest and most mysterious development journeys in gaming. The project was first revealed at Gamescom 2012, with plans to release in 2013. But that never happened. After the announcement, the game almost disappeared, with no major updates for years. Many assumed it was canceled, until it suddenly resurfaced during Summer Game Fest 2022 with a brand new look and a complete rebuild for modern systems.
Now, it seems the developers are finally ready to share their vision with players. Routine is set on an abandoned lunar base, where the player must uncover what went wrong after a mysterious catastrophe. The environment is cold, dark, and filled with tension. The story unfolds as players explore the base, using outdated technology and strange gadgets that make the experience feel both retro and futuristic.
The game’s atmosphere gives off strong Aliens and 1980s sci-fi horror vibes, complete with film grain visuals and eerie silence broken only by distant mechanical sounds. Players will need to stay alert, as danger lurks around every corner. The biggest threat seems to come from malfunctioning robots that have turned hostile—machines that would fit perfectly in a Weyland-Yutani experiment gone wrong.
Routine promises a mix of exploration, survival, and psychological horror. There are no health bars or mission markers—just the player, their instincts, and the terrifying emptiness of space.
