Mozilla is testing a new feature that could make Firefox even more useful. The company has added a free built-in VPN directly inside the browser. The company is inviting beta testers to try it out before a wider release.

This new VPN will be integrated into Firefox itself and will appear right next to the search bar. Unlike Mozilla’s existing standalone VPN service, which works across multiple devices, the built-in version will only protect traffic within the browser. That means it will not cover other apps or system-wide connections.

However, there’s one limitation in the current beta. You might not be able to use it to access region-locked content. The VPN will automatically connect to the fastest server available instead of letting you pick a location manually. That could change in future updates, depending on how testers respond.

Mozilla says it will start with a simple version of the VPN and gradually add new features based on user feedback. The desktop version will arrive first, followed by one for mobile users later.

To join the beta, Firefox users might see a pop-up invite within their browser. If you do not want to participate, you can dismiss the invite or even remove the VPN option from the toolbar later.

Mozilla also confirmed that it will collect some performance logs during the beta phase. But the company promises to keep the data anonymous, use it only for performance monitoring, and delete it after three months.
