Apple has officially launched the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the latest M5 chip. The company says the new M5 chip delivers up to 3.5 times better AI performance and 1.6 times faster graphics compared to the previous generation.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5) features a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with a resolution of 3024×1964 pixels and a pixel density of 254 PPI. It supports ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, and offers up to 1,000 nits sustained brightness and 1,600 nits peak brightness. The contrast ratio remains at an impressive 1,000,000:1.
The new MacBook Pro continues with a 10-core CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, along with a 10-core GPU. Each core now includes a Neural Accelerator to help the laptop achieve much faster on-device AI processing. Apple claims it delivers up to 3.5x faster AI performance than M4 and 6.4x faster time-to-first-token performance than the older M1 chip.
The M5 also includes a faster 16-core Neural Engine that boosts Apple Intelligence and other AI-driven features on macOS. According to Apple, the new SSD is twice as fast as before, allowing large AI models and apps to load much quicker.
While the internal upgrades are significant, Apple has not changed the design or external specifications of the MacBook Pro. The laptop retains the same solid aluminum body and overall look as last year’s model.
The laptop runs on macOS Tahoe and comes with 16GB or 24GB of unified memory, configurable up to 32GB. Storage options start from 512GB and go up to 4TB SSD.
It features the Backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, Force Touch trackpad, and all the modern connectivity options like Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
The 12MP Center Stage webcam supports 1080p HD video recording and comes with Desk View and Apple’s advanced image processing for better video calls. For sound, it includes a studio-quality three-mic array and a six-speaker high-fidelity sound system with support for Dolby Atmos and spatial audio.
Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SDXC card slot, and a MagSafe 3 charging port.
It packs a 72.4Wh lithium-polymer battery that offers up to 24 hours of Apple TV playback or 16 hours of wireless web browsing. Apple ships it with a 70W USB-C power adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable.
