Xiaomi has announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17, at an event in China.
The phone comes with a 6.3-inch 1.5K OLED flat LTPO display that supports a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. It has very slim 1.18mm bezels, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, and can reach up to 3500 nits brightness. Xiaomi has used its Dragon Crystal Glass, which it claims is ten times stronger against drops.
The Xiaomi 17 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. To keep things cool, it features a new three-dimensional ring-shaped cooling system, which Xiaomi says offers three times better performance than regular vapor chambers. The phone runs HyperOS 3 based on Android.
It has three 50MP rear cameras, all tuned with Leica Summilux lenses. The main camera features a 1/1.31-inch Light Fusion 950 sensor with OIS, the ultra-wide camera offers a 102° field of view, and the telephoto camera supports 2.6X zoom with OIS. On the front, there is a 50MP selfie camera that supports 4K video recording. The phone also uses Xiaomi’s AISP 2.0 platform for computational photography.
It also includes an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res audio, and a 4-microphone array. For connectivity, the phone supports 5G SA/NSA, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C 3.2, and multiple global navigation systems, including NavIC.
The device packs a large 7000mAh battery with 16% silicon content, giving it high energy density and better endurance in low temperatures. Xiaomi says the battery is designed to last up to five years. It supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and also offers reverse charging for other devices.
The Xiaomi 17 measures 151.1 × 71.8 × 8.06mm and weighs 191 grams. It comes in Snow Mountain Pink, Ice Melt Blue, Black, and White colors. It is also IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.
The Xiaomi 17 starts at 4499 yuan for the 12GB + 256GB model, 4799 yuan for the 12GB + 512GB model, and 4999 yuan for the 16GB + 512GB variant.
