After years of being exclusive to China, OriginOS is finally making its way to India. Vivo and iQOO have officially confirmed the arrival of OriginOS 6, with iQOO CEO Nipun Marya teasing the launch on X.
Adding to the confirmation, the official FuntouchOS India X account has now been rebranded as OriginOS. This confirms that Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO are preparing for the transition. Vivo and iQOO both also issued press releases with the same “Coming Soon” tagline, removing any remaining doubts.
For those unfamiliar, iQOO is a sub-brand of Vivo, and until now, both companies have shipped their phones in India with FuntouchOS. OriginOS, introduced by Vivo in 2020, is a custom Android skin known for its modern design, widget-based layout, smooth animations, and system-level optimizations. While Chinese users have been enjoying it for a while, Indian users had to make do with FuntouchOS.
The arrival of OriginOS 6 in India marks a major shift in software experience for Vivo and iQOO smartphones. It promises a cleaner and more refined interface compared to FuntouchOS, along with better performance optimizations. Although iQOO has not yet revealed the rollout timeline or device list, it is safe to assume that upcoming iQOO phones and select existing models will be the first to receive the update.
