Google TV Gets Smarter with Gemini AI Integration

Google is finally bringing its Gemini AI to Google TV, months after first teasing the feature earlier this year. The rollout begins with select TCL models and will expand to more televisions and streaming devices in the coming months.

With this update, Google is promising a much more natural experience than what users were used to with Google Assistant. Instead of handling just basic commands, Gemini is designed to manage free-flowing conversations. You can still use the familiar “Hey Google” phrase or press the microphone button on your remote, but now the AI can understand context, answer follow-up questions, and provide smarter suggestions.

Imagine not remembering the exact name of a show — you can simply ask, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone is talking about?” and Gemini will figure it out. If you are behind on a series like Outlander, you can also get spoiler-free recaps before jumping back in.

For now, Gemini is only active on the TCL QM9K series, but the list of supported devices is set to grow. Later this year, it will arrive on other TCL models such as the QM7K, QM8K, and X11K. Hisense’s 2025 U7, U8, and UX models are also in line, along with Walmart’s onn. 4K Pro and the upcoming Google TV Streamer.

This update is part of a larger trend where TV makers are turning to AI assistants to make content discovery easier. Microsoft and Samsung are also working together to bring Copilot to Samsung’s 2025 TV lineup, where users can ask questions, get recommendations, or even request quick recaps of shows.

Gemini on Google TV marks another step in Google’s plan to bring its AI into everyday devices. By giving TVs conversational intelligence, the company wants to turn the living room screen into more than just a display. It becomes an assistant that helps you find, catch up, and enjoy content more effortlessly.
