Gears of War: Reloaded, the latest remaster from The Coalition, has already crossed the 1 million player mark within just three days of its release on August 26. The Coalition confirmed the milestone on social media, thanking fans with the line, “Ending the console war, one grub at a time.”
The figure reflects total players and not direct sales. But, it still shows the strong demand for the franchise. A large portion of the player base likely comes from Xbox Game Pass, where the game is available from day one. Still, crossing the one-million mark this quickly is no small feat. It highlights how much nostalgia and excitement the series carries even in 2025.
This is the first time PlayStation users got to experience Gears of War. This makes the release even more historic for the developer. Interestingly, early performance comparisons suggest the best way to play the game is actually on the PlayStation 5 Pro, which reportedly offers a smoother balance of visuals and frame rates than even the Xbox Series X.
Looking ahead, the franchise is far from slowing down. The Coalition is already working on Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel set before the original trilogy. On top of that, Netflix and Universal Pictures are moving forward with a Gears of War movie adaptation, which is expected to arrive in 2027. With multiple projects in the pipeline, the series is positioning itself for a major resurgence.
