The wireless charging has now got better with the new Qi 2.2. The Qi 2.2 is the latest update to the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) standard that is quietly reshaping how we charge our devices. The tech was first teased earlier this year, and now it’s official. Some brands have already rushed to get their devices certified. So, what exactly does Qi 2.2 bring to the table and why should you care? Let’s make it clear.

What is Qi 2.2

Qi 2.2 is the latest version of the Qi wireless charging standard, which is built on Qi2. While Qi 2 capped wireless charging at 15W, Qi 2.2 bumps the charging speed to a more respectable 25W. It is a series performance upgrade to the wireless charging standard.

As I said, a few brands have already rushed to certify their devices. Brands like Anker, Baseus, Aukey, Belkin, and Scosche are all in. The WPC database lists eight certified Qi2.2.1 products.

Here is a quick snapshot of how Qi 2.2 changes the game compared to previous standards:

Max Charging Speed7.5W–15W15WUp to 25W (Certified)

So, you can now see that Qi 2.2 is not just faster, it is better at staying locked magnetically, cooler during charging, and smarter at power delivery. All of this matters because real-world wireless charging often suffers from misalignment, overheating, or inconsistent speeds. Qi 2.2 aims to eliminate those issues.

If you are one of those who use a wireless charger regularly, Qi 2.2 will surely impress you. 25W may not sound groundbreaking, but for wireless charging, it is a massive leap. With improved magnets and smarter alignment, no more waking up to a half-charged phone. Improvement in thermal efficiency also makes it better.

However, you should rush to buy Qi 2.2 accessories only if you have a Qi 2.2-ready phone or plan to upgrade soon. It is backward-ready with Qi and Qi2 devices, but it will charge at slower speeds if your device doesn’t support Qi 2.

Qi 2.2 certified devices

Ugreen has officially announced its 10,000mAh MagFlow Power Bank, which is certified with Qi2.2. Belkin will release several Qi2.2 accessories, including the UltraCharge Pro 3-in-1 dock. Anker is reportedly bringing a new Qi2.2 3-in-1 dock under its Prime series. The dock will feature a built-in display to monitor real-time charging speeds. Aukey has a 2-in-1 wireless stand coming soon, and Baseus is preparing a Qi2.2-certified power bank and a 3-in-1 charging stand.

These are some of the WPC-certified products and will hit the stores by the end of 2025.
