Microsoft has officially shut down its Movies & TV store on Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. Now you can no longer buy new movies or TV shows from the Microsoft Store.

If you have already bought content before the shutdown, you do not worry. You can continue watching your purchased movies and shows through the Movies & TV app on Windows or Xbox. However, you must use this app to access your content. You cannot move it to another service unless it is a part of Movies Anywhere in the US. Microsoft is not giving any refunds for past purchases.

This move has not come as a surprise. People had been expecting it ever since Microsoft closed down its Groove Music service back in 2017. The journey of Microsoft’s video store started way back in 2006 with the Zune Marketplace. Then it became Xbox Video in 2012, and later turned into the Movies & TV app in 2015. Now, nearly 10 years later, it is gone.

With this shutdown, Microsoft has stepped back from the video streaming space. The good news is that Microsoft will continue to support your existing purchases.
