EA Is Finally Shutting Down Anthem in January 2026

EA Is Shutting Down Anthem

EA has officially announced that Anthem, its struggling online shooter, will shut down for good on January 12, 2026. The game will be removed from EA’s store on August 15, and after that, you will only be able to download it if it is already in your library.

The shutdown process has already started. Players can no longer buy premium in-game currency, but any existing balance can still be used for in-game purchases. Since Anthem requires an internet connection to play, the game will stop working completely once the servers go offline in January.

Anthem was released in 2019 and received poor reviews right from the beginning. Critics and players pointed out its repetitive grinding, lack of polish, and several annoying bugs. BioWare, the developer behind the game, promised improvements, but updates came too slowly to save the game’s reputation.

By 2021, BioWare had already stopped active development on Anthem. Around that time, the game’s director also left the company. So, this shutdown was expected.

If you love laying Anthem and will miss it, you can try games like Warframe, Destiny 2, Outriders, The Division 2, and Remnant II.
