Snap has finally launched the Snapchat app for WatchOS after more than ten years since the first Apple Watch launched. The app on Apple Watch lets users to preview messages and reply directly from their wrist.

Until now, Apple Watch users could only view notifications from Snapchat via their connected iPhone. But they couldn’t reply to messages. However, the dedicated app for watchOS makes the experience more interactive.

You can now reply to messages using the tiny Apple Watch keyboard, scribble with your finger, send emojis, or use voice dictation. It is not a full Snapchat experience just yet. You still cannot view photos or videos.

Snapchat says the app is handy when you are on the go and allows quick interactions. The app shows only the first 100 characters of a message and does not mark it as “read” in the mobile app.

Snapchat’s arrival on the Apple Watch puts it ahead of rivals like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Facebook Messenger once had an Apple Watch app, but it was removed. WhatsApp still does not offer a native experience on the watchOS platform. So while Snapchat may be late, it is still ahead of the curve.

Although the app offers limited features, Snapchat says it is just the beginning. If more features are added over time, it could become much more engaging.
