Google is finally making video calls feel more natural for people who speak different languages. At its I/O 2025 event, the company announced that real-time live translation is coming to Google Meet. The feature uses AI to translate spoken Spanish during video calls. Google has also confirmed that more languages will be added soon.
What makes this exciting is how natural the translation sounds. During a short demo, Google showed how the AI translation not only translated words but also matched the speaker’s tone, expressions, and rhythm. It looked and sounded like a real conversation, not just a robotic voice reading subtitles.
This is a big step forward for online meetings. Until now, users had to rely on captions that translated speech into text. That worked, but reading subtitles while trying to stay engaged in a conversation is not ideal. With live audio translation, you can focus on what is being said, just like you would in a real-life conversation.
In my opinion, this could completely change the way people communicate across borders. Imagine a global company where team members from different countries can all speak their own language and still understand each other in real time. It is also great news for freelancers, educators, and support teams who work with international clients.
Google says this feature will first be available in beta for Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Enterprise users will get it later this year during the early testing phase. While it is not yet clear how many languages will be supported or how accurate the translation will be in complex conversations, the demo looked promising.
If it works as smoothly as Google claims, this could be one of the most useful AI tools in recent times. And with Google’s push into AI, we can expect more enhancements soon. This feature may even push other platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams to develop something similar.
