It seems Apple is planning to foray into a new segment. Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell camera that incorporates Face ID. According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, this advanced doorbell could debut as early as the end of 2025

The highlight of this device is its Face ID feature. So, users would be able to unlock their doors simply by looking at the camera. This provides an effortless biometric security for Apple users. The smart doorbell will reportedly include Apple’s Secure Enclave chip to ensure Face ID data is securely stored and processed independently of the device’s other hardware components.

Gurman notes that the doorbell camera is likely to work with existing HomeKit-enabled smart locks. Apple might also collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to offer a fully integrated solution upon release. The device is expected to use Apple’s upcoming “Proxima” chip, a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies that could also feature in next-generation HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.

The doorbell camera will provide Apple entry into the smart home ecosystem segment. Apple could also bring more devices such as smart home cameras, smart displays, and even a possible Apple TV if the doorbell camera becomes successful.

The device is still in early development. So, we cannot guess when it could hit the market. Apple could also drop its plans if the device doesn’t meet the quality standards.

Stay tuned as we follow Apple’s next big leap into the future of connected living.
