Steam Game Recording is leaving the beta and is now available to all users on PC, Mac, and Steam Deck. It is a built-in Steam feature to record and share videos from gaming sessions.
This tool not only records gaming sessions but also offers basic editing tools to trip and cut clips to keep only the necessary part of the video footage. Users can either use background recording or manually use record and stop options. One can also select the duration and quality levels per game basic.
There is also a replay option that lets users quickly rewind their most recent recordings. You can also add markers while recording to remember when an exciting event happened during gameplay. If the game supports the Steam Timeline feature, Steam adds its own markers to your recording.
You need to update Steam to get the feature. Once you update Steam, go to settings and enable the feature from the Game Recording section.
The recent Steam update also doesn’t support Windows 7 or Windows 8. If you still use one of the mentioned Windows versions, you won’t be updated to the new version of the Steam client. This version also drops support for macOS 10.13 or 10.14.
Valve has also fixed several issues such as the version. Previously, drag-and-drop of text into a chat would send the text immediately. The latest Steam client has fixed the bug. The company has also re-enabled remote install from the Steam client. Read the full changelog here.
