Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has introduced a new Recommendations Reset feature on Instagram. The feature lets users refresh their content suggestions across Explore, Reels, and Feed. With this feature, Instagram wants to provide a safer and more personalized experience, particularly for teenagers.
By using the Recommendations Reset feature, users get control of their Instagram experience. They can clear existing content suggestions and start afresh. Instagram will again gradually refine recommendations based on new interactions with posts and accounts. Instagram also suggests users review people they follow and unfollow accounts that no longer align with their interests.
This new Recommendation Reset feature is being rolled out gradually and will be coming to all Instagram users globally in the coming weeks.
Meta has also collaborated with Joanna and Clea, the organizational experts behind “The Home Edit” to enhance this initiative. They aim to educate parents and teens on managing Instagram accounts, and periodically review and curate digital spaces to ensure the content aligns with their evolving interests. Meta encourages teens to regularly review their following lists to ensure their Instagram experience remains relevant and engaging.
Instagram also offers several tools to help users shape their feeds. Users can indicate whether they are “Interested” or “Not Interested” in specific posts. They can also use Hidden Words feature feature to block posts containing specific terms. Users can switch to a Following Feed for chronological updates or use a Favorites List to prioritize posts from selected accounts.
Meta claims that Instagram avoids recommending sensitive content to teen accounts even if the content is shared by accounts they follow. Now Meta has introduced a new page in its Transparency Center to provide detailed insights into its content moderation approach.
