YouTube has launched a new way for creators to earn money on video-sharing platforms. The new way is called YouTube Shopping which gives a new way of monetization and boosting earnings. Creators will be able to tag products to their videos and earn revenue on each sale. YouTube Shopping will be available on the web, apps, and connected TVs for regular videos, Shorts Videos, and LiveStreams.

YouTube Shopping is an affiliate program that allows creators to earn commissions by tagging and promoting products from major e-commerce brands within their videos. Viewers who are watching videos can discover and purchase products recommended by creators. For each sale, the creator will be rewarded a commission.

YouTube says it has partnered with Flipkart and Myntra for this new program. The commission rate for various products will be shown at the time of tagging the product in the video. A creator can tag up to 30 products in a video.

There’s also an eligibility criteria to join the YouTube Shopping program on YouTube. YouTube channels must have at least 10,000 subscribers. YouTune channels that are set at Made for Kids or a music channel are not eligible for this new monetization program.

If your channel is eligible, Open YouTube Studio and go to the Earn section by clicking Earn in the left side menu. Here you see ‘Programs’. Click on it and then click on Join Now. You will have to review and accept the terms and conditions.

Video commerce is now becoming popular and several platforms are exploring it to market their products. Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra have already added a video commerce section where creators upload videos and buyers use the video while making shopping decisions. Amazon associates can also upload videos to boost their affiliate revenue on the program.
