MacBook Air gets memory upgrade

MacBook Air M3

Along with the new MacBook Pro models with M4 chips, Apple has also increased the base memory from 8GB to 16GB in MacBook Air M2 and M3 models. The 16GB model now gets 24GB of memory. However, the company has not increased the price. There is no other change except for the memory.

The decision to increase the RAM seems a good move. I still use a MacBook Air M1 with 8GB memory, and 8GB RAM seems more than enough for most of my tasks. However, the increase in RAM will make multitasking even better. Apple started offering 8GB base memory back in 2016. In 2024, it increased its base memory to 16 GB. Even the latest Mac mini now has 16GB of RAM in the base model.
