We first heard about WhatsApp’s Status update mention feature back in Match. Now the company has started testing the feature with beta users on Android. WABetaInfo found the feature in the Android beta version 2.24.20.3 of WhatsApp. To mention a user in the status, you only need to click the @ button and select a contact to mention.

However, the feature has one notable option. It keeps the identity of the mentioned user private. Other people cannot see anything. But the mentioned contact will receive a notification and a message in their chat. The mentioned contact will also not be visible in your Status viewers list.

The mentioned contact will always see the Status even if you have excluded it from viewing your Status updates. The mentioned contact can also reshare the status update by using the reshare button,

We are not sure when the company will release this feature in the stable version. The company is currently testing the feature with a limited number of beta users.
