This morning, I got a call from a friend who told me how his company is struggling due to a Windows outage. All the systems are showing BSOD and no one can login to the system. Then I discussed it with other friends and found they were struggling too. It seems most IT companies are suffering, impacting most industries including Banking, Media, Transport, and more.
When I checked Down Detector, I found that several services including Delta Airlines, Amazon, Visa, ADT, Microsoft Store, Wizza Air, Vanguard, and more are down.
Today, IndiGo issued handwritten boarding passes after Windows systems failed.
Later it was confirmed that the issue was with CrowdStrike. Several businesses use CrowdStrike to manage the security of Windows PCs and servers. CrowdStrike has acknowledged the issue and linked it to their Falcon sensor. They have already reverted the update that caused the problem.
Hundreds of IT people turned to Reddit to discuss the issue and workaround steps. On a thread, I found that one could boot Windows in safe mode and navigate to the CrowdStrike directory to delete a system file to fix the issue.
