YouTube has added a few new features for premium subscribers. Newly added features smart downloads for offline viewing, the ability to skip to key moments, and PiP for shorts.
YouTUbe premium subscribers can now easily skip to the best parts of a video by using the ‘jump ahead’ button. This feature uses AI and viewership data to find the best part of the video. The feature is currently only available for Android users in the US. It will soon be available for iOS and other users.
The company is also adding a picture-in-picture mode for YouTube Shorts. So, you can now watch Shorts while using other apps. However, the feature is limited to Android users only.
Premium subscribers will also get early access to new features via youtube.com/new page. Some of the experimental features are Smart Downloads for YouTube Shorts, Conversational AI, and a Redesigned Watch Page.
Smart Downloads for YouTube Shorts automatically downloads Shorts for offline viewing. The Conversational AI feature is limited to Android users in the US. It lets users ask questions about the video by tapping the ‘Ask’ button.
YouTube has also made several improvements to enhance user experience. The company is working on offering improved control features, improved download experience, and high-quality videos. The company wants to reduce the number of clicks needed to access controls.
The company is also considering more subscription options to make Premium affordable and expand to more regions.
