Threads, Instagram’s X rival, has started testing messaging features. It now lets users send messages to a user’s Instagram inbox directly from Threads.
Some Threads users have started seeing a ‘message’ button on other users’ profiles. Tapping this button lets them send a message from Threads to Instagram. If you send a message from Threads to a user’s Instagram DM, the person will have to use the Instagram app to read messages and further communication will be done on Instagram.
Threads is already built on top of Instagram and requires an existing Instagram account to signup. Since these apps have a common infrastructure, integrating Instagram DM into threads was easy for the company.
A Meta spokesperson has confirmed this testing but didn’t confirm when the company will widely roll it out.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram head, confirmed multiple times that he has no plans to create a separate inbox for threads. So, the company is integrating Instagram’s DM into Threads.
