Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, a powerful platform that promises to redefine mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 boasts an impressive 4.3K resolution per eye at 90 frames per second (FPS), providing users with unparalleled picture quality, depth, shades, textures, and colors. With support for 12 or more concurrent cameras and dedicated XR acceleration blocks, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 enables unparalleled interactions, including hand, head, controller, facial expression, depth estimation, and 3D reconstruction.

Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 includes features like dynamic foveated rendering, space warp, and game super-resolution, ensuring even more lifelike 4K graphics.

Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 promises a 15% increase in GPU frequency and a 20% boost in CPU frequency. The platform also delivers 8X more on-device AI performance than its predecessor, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1.

One of the key features of the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 is its ability to pack premium MR and VR technology into a single-chip architecture.

The platform supports Qualcomm FastConnect Mobile Connectivity System, incorporating ultra-fast Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E, along with Bluetooth 5.3 and 5.2. This enables 60% higher throughput and 50% lower latency, contributing to a seamless and responsive connection for a variety of applications.

Qualcomm’s announcement comes hand-in-hand with strategic partnerships with Samsung and Google. Samsung is poised to enter the MR/VR space by using Qualcomm’s chipsets and Google’s Android ecosystem. This collaboration holds the promise of pushing the boundaries of immersive experiences through innovative hardware and software integration.

Qualcomm is bringing this chip to CES where it is expected to reveal more details.
