Xiaomi introduces HyperOS: Features and availability details

Xiaomi has been using MIUI on its smartphones for over a decade. But, the company has now decided to stop working on MIUI and announced a new operating system called HyperOS. HyperOS will gradually replace MIUI, It promises to offer better security, good performance, and multitasking improvements.

HyperOS will come pre-installed on the new Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85-inch MiniLED TV, Xiaomi Watch S3, and other upcoming Xiaomi devices. The company claims that this single OS will deliver diverse functionality across devices.

Xiaomi claims that HyperOS is lightweight and uses minimal resources. For IoT products, It relies on Linux and Xiaomi’s self-developed Xiaomi Vela system based on open-source RTOS, NuttX. For smartphones and tablets, HyperOS is based on AOSP.

HyperOS can schedule tasks in a way to maximize hardware performance. It claims to offer a stable frame rate and lower power consumption compared to stock Android when gaming.

HyperOS has a HyperConnect feature for cross-end connectivity. HyperConnect also revolutionizes connectivity by providing control over all connected devices. You can switch camera sources during video calls and access cameras from various devices. It also enables seamless data transfer between devices.

This new OS also comes with deep integration of AI. It has HyperMind AI that makes devices proactive. HyperMind A learns user needs and adapts devices accordingly. The company has also integrated a large foundation model to enhance system applications. It supports speech generation, image search, and AI artwork creation like features.

The company also took user privacy and security seriously. Xiaomi’s self-developed TEE takes care of security. It covers a wide range of security features across smartphones and AIoT devices. HyperOS also employs end-to-end encryption through TEE for data transmission between devices.

HyperOS Release Timeline

Starting December 2023, Xiaomi will start pushing HyperOS to some of its devices in China. In Q1, 2024, it will be released for international devices
