Google has announced a new type of Chromebook called Chromebook Plus. The company promises improved performance and AI capabilities in Chromebook Plus. These laptops will come with built-in Google apps and robust AI features. Chromebook Plus will help buyers identify the high-end Chromebooks to buy.

There’s a minimum requirements criteria for a Chromebook to be identified as Chromebook Plus. Here’s a list:

  • An Intel Core (i3 or higher) or AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU
  • An IPS panel with at least 1080p resolution
  • A 1080p webcam
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 128GB of storage

There’s no mention of battery life in the minimum requirements criteria, but we know that Google has already set a requirement of 10 hours of battery life for all Chromebooks.

Google will offer several robust AI features in Chromebook Plus. These features include Google Photos Magic Eraser and Photoshop on the web. The company also brings premium features including call clarity, lighting, cancelling background noise, and blurring backgrounds from Google Meet to Chromebook Plus.

Chromebook Plus also enables users to work on graphics-intensive projects in several apps. Google also plans to get more AI capabilities in ChromeOS. The company could add generative AI backgrounds for video calls across various apps, easy ways to make short-got content, AI image generation, and more.

Google is working closely with several laptop manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo to release optimized Chromebook Plus.
