WhatsApp is adding another important feature for businesses in India. Indian users can now pay businesses on WhatsApp using credit cards and other UPI apps. The company has partnered with PayU and Razorpay to add support for payments via credit cards, debit cards, and other UPI apps.

The feature is now already available to all WhatsApp businesses in the country. Users can buy products and services directly from WhatsApp chats with business and pay using supported UPI apps, debit and credit cards.

“This is going to make it even easier for people to pay Indian businesses within a WhatsApp chat using whatever method they prefer,” said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, in his virtual remarks at the company’s Conversations 2023 event in Mumbai.

India is one of the biggest markets for WhatsApp. The company initially introduced WhatsApp UPI payments in 2020 and the service now boasts more than 100 million users. But WhatsApp Pay is facing tough competition from PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and other UPI apps. With new update, the company wants businesses to sell products and services on WhatsApp.
