Samsung has just announced its next-generation foldable smartphone Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 at its unpacked event in South Korea. This is the successor to Galaxy Z Fold4. Galaxy Z Fold5 has a new Flex Hinge, so the phone now closes fully flat. It packs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy 4nm processor and has the similar camera setup as in predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 features a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with 1~120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 1750 nits peak brightness. It also has 374ppi pixel density and supports HDR10+. There is also a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 1~120Hz refresh.
The phone uses an Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the display and back. It is also IPX8 water resistant as its predecessor.
Samsung has improved its Flex Hinge that includes dual rail structure, diffusing external impacts. So, there is no gap between two display panels when the phone is folded. The phone also has shock dispersion layer and a redesigned back for a more solid display.
Galaxy Z Fold5 packs Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy 4nm processor with Adreno 740 GPU. It has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM. The phone is offered in 256GB, 512GB, and `TB UFS4.0 storage options.
Samsung has also improved software experience for better multitasking in the Galaxy Z Fold5. The taskbar can now hold up to four recent apps for quick switching. It also supports two-handed drag and drop to move content between apps and screens more easily. Users can touch and hold an image in the Gallery with one finger and use another to open Notes and drop the image.
The phone has triple camera setup that includes 50 megapixels primary camera with OIS and a 12 megapixels 123˚ Ultra-wide camera, and 10 megapixels telephoto camera with OIS, PDAF, 3x optical zoom. For selfies, it has a 10 megapixels camera on the counter display. The inner display also has a 4 megapixels under-display camera.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 has a side mounted fingerprint sensor. It also has Stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos.
Connectivity options are 5G, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 6E (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.3, GPS with GLONASS, USB Type-C, and NFC. The phone packs a 4400mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. It also supports 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is priced at $1799.99 for for 256GB, $1919.99 for 512GB and $2159.99 for 1TB. It will be available to order from today and will go on sale starting from August 11.
