WhatsApp has now started testing video messages feature. Users can now record and send a video message of up to 60 seconds. The company is currently testing the feature with select beta users and will roll it out to all users in the coming weeks.
The feature is currently available in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.19 and WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.12.0.71. If you do not use beta version, you need until the feature comes to the stable version.
For sending a video message, open the chat where you want to send the video message. Now tap the mic icon located at the bottom right corner. Tapping the mic icon will turn it into a video icon. Now tap and hold the video icon to start recording the video message.
After finish recording, send it. Video messages will be visible differently in the chat. It will have a round thumbnail. See the screenshot below.
WhatsApp video messages cannot be saved to phone’s gallery, but it is possible to record them by using screen recording. Video messages are recorded directly by the camera, so you know it is not an old video.

WhatsApp has been actively adding features to make platorm even more intersting. Users can now lock chats, edit messages, share screen on video calls, audio status, and more. The company is also planning to add username option, so users can add someone on WhatsApp witout revealing phone numbers.
