Apple announces macOS Sonoma at WWDC23

Apple unveiled macOS Sonoma, the latest version of its desktop OS at WWDC 2023. The most notable features include widgets on the desktop, moving aerial screensavers, and a new game mode. It is now available in developer beta and public beta will come in the next few weeks.

Apple is making Widgets even better on Mac. Users can select widgets from the widgets gallery and place them right on the desktop. Widgets blend seamlessly with the wallpaper and keep users focused on the task. Widgets are also becoming interactive that lets users check off reminders, play or pause media, access home controls, and perform other tasks

Apple has also introduced new features to Safari for enhancing the browsing experience. Private Browsing now provides even greater protection during browsing. It has advanced tracking and fingerprinting protections in Private Browsing to block websites from tracking or identifying the user.

With multiple profiles, users can now stay organized by separating their work and personal accounts. They can quickly switch between profiles to get a smooth browsing experience.

Safari now also lets users create web apps that behave like normal apps.

macOS Sonoma also brings stunning screen savers that feature slow-motion videos of various locations worldwide.

The upcoming macOS will come with Game Mode. It is designed to prioritize a game’s access to CPU and GPU resources. It also promises reduced latency for connected AirPods and Xbox and PlayStation controllers. Game Mode will work with all the titles available on Mac.

Apple has also improved the Videoconferencing experience. The Presenter Overlay will let users show their faces in front of the presentation. Users can put themselves at the front, or center, or float over the shared screen. This feature will be available on any videoconferencing app.

The upcoming macOS Sonoma also brings a high-performance mode in Screen Sharing. It delivers low-latency audio, and high frame rates, and supports up to two virtual displays. Apple has also added a range of accessibility features that make the Mac even more customizable.

Sonoma’s enhanced PDF functionality allows quick form-filling with AutoFill. Notes app can now display PDFs and document scans in full width. Siri is also getting the ability to simply say “Siri” to activate it.

The autocorrect is now more accurate and Dictation brings accuracy improvements.
