Twitter introduces DM replies; getting encrypted DMs and calling soon

Twitter

Twitter is giving DMs a big upgrade to provide users with a good messaging experience. Now you can reply to a specific message in DM. It will be similar to how you could already do in iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, or in Messenger.

The company is working on improving the experience by doing a better rendering of replies to media messages. These changes should be visible in the coming days.

Twitter now also allows users to react to a message with any emoji they want instead of a limited few. You will be shown an emoji picker for reacting to any message you want. Other social media platforms offer select emojis to react from.

These changes will surely make conversations better on the platform. Most users who want to have long conversations usually share their numbers in Twitter DMs and continue their conversations on WhatsApp or calls. Now after Twitter DMs will offer a similar experience, Twitter should see a boost in DM usage.

One of the biggest upgrades will be encrypted DMs which should arrive on Wednesday. Elon Musk tweeted to confirm that encrypted DMs V1.0 should come tomorrow. Musk and his team was working on encrypted DMs since November last year.

This is not the end. Twitter is also working to bring voice and video calls. So, you will be able to make audio or video calls from your Twitter account to anyone on this platform.

Reply to a message, encrypted messaging, video calls, or audio calls are not the new features for Internet users. These features are available in most messaging and social media platforms. Twitter is now trying to capture other platforms to boost its engagement and usage.

Recently Twitter also confirmed that it will purge accounts with no activity for several years. This step will drop the followers count of many. These inactive accounts will be archived and should also free up handles held by inactive users.
