Hackers have hacked into two hookup websites, CityJerks and TruckerSucker, and have stolen email addresses, personal data, and direct messages. Earlier this week, someone notified Troy Hunt, founder of Have I Been Pwned, about this data breach. Hunt analyzed the data and confirmed the breach to Techcrunch.
Troy Hunt confirmed that the leaked data includes usernames, email addresses, passwords, profile pictures, sexual orientation, users’ date of birth, city, and state, IP addresses, and biographies. Passwords were stored with a weak algorithm and can easily be cracked to see actual passwords.
The data has been listed on a hacking forum. The listing claims it has data of 8,000 users from TruckerSucker and 77,000 users from CityJerks.
The leaked data includes messages and identity data. So, people affected by the data breach will surely get emails from scammers for extortion.
Both the affected websites have a similar visual design and could use the same CMS. This could be the reason why hackers managed to hack into both websites. The company that operates both websites is silent on the matter. So, we cannot say how hackers managed to hack these websites and what the company is doing to protect its customers.
