Google has announced that it will now display a blue checkmark next to select senders’ names in Gmail to confirm the sender’s identity. This checkmark will automatically appear next to senders’ names who adopted the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature of Gmail.
Gmail rolled out BIMI feature back in 2021. This feature asks brands to verify their brand logo and use strong authentication. Hovering the checkmark will say, “The sender of this email has verified that they own the domain and the login in the profile image.”
This feature aims to stop spam emails and help users identify spam senders to avoid being scammed. The blue checkmark in front of the sender’s name is a strong indicator that the sender is legitimate.
“Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and stop spam, and also enables senders to leverage their brand trust,” Google wrote in a blog post. “This increases confidence in email sources and gives readers an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone.”
The blue verification checkmarks feature will be available to all users by the end of this week. Workspace admins need to set up BIMI for their company. You will start seeing blue checkmarks in Gmail soon.
