WhatsApp now allows users to access their accounts from more than one device. So, users can use the same WhatsApp accounts from multiple linked devices. Each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently. Even if your primary account is not connected to the Internet, you can keep using WhatsApp on connected devices.
However, your primary device needs to be online at least once in 14 days. If the primary device is inactive for over 14 days, it will automatically log out all your connected devices.
WhatsApp confirms that each linked device connects to WhatsApp independently. All the messages, calls, and media are still end-to-end encrypted.
Currently, you need to scan a WhatsApp QR code from the primary device to link to a new device. Soon, the company will let you enter your phone number and receive a one-time code to log into your account on a new device.
The company has now started rolling out this feature to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
