Microsoft has made its Outlook app for Mac free. So, users do not need to have a Microsoft 365 subscription or license for using Outlook on macOS.

Outlook for Mac supports Outlook.com accounts along with other email providers such as Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, and others that have IMAP support. The app is also optimized for M1 and M2 chips.

The app also supports handoff with iOS. So, users can easily pick a task they left off between iOS and Mac devices. Outlook for Mac also comes with a widget for calendar entries and native notification center support.

Soon the app will get a menu bar peek option for quickly checking entries within the main Outlook for Mac app. The company is also planning to add support for the Focus experience with Outlook Profiles.

Now Mac users have another good email client. Not many good email clients are available for Mac. Thunderbird is the most popular along with some other paid email apps. Microsoft wants Mac users to try Outlook and think if this app works for them. Some of these users may later buy Microsoft 365 and Office.

If you are interested in trying Outlook for Mac, download it for free from Mac App Store.
