Meta announces paid blue tick verification for Facebook and Instagram

Meta Verified

Meta has also unveiled its premium subscription for users to get a blue tick verification badge on Instagram and Facebook. Verified accounts will also get increased visibility, prioritized customer support, and more. The company will now test this in Australia and New Zealand this week and will bring it to other countries soon.

Mark Zuckerberg announced this new subscription service on Instagram’s Broadcast channel, the feature rolled out recently.

“This week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified – a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support,” Zuckerberg writes.

Users will have to pay $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on iOS for getting a blue tick verification badge. There is no word for Android but is likely to cost the same as in iOS.

For being Meta Verified, you need to be at least 18 years of age or older. You will be asked to submit a government ID that matches the name and photo you have on Facebook or Instagram.

Meta’s paid verification service is very similar to Twitter’s Blue subscription. Meta is also putting higher subscription prices on mobile in the same way Elon did on Twitter. The higher subscription cost on mobile apps is to offset the 30 percent commission levied by app stores.
