Samsung unveils OLED display with 2,000 nits brightness for smartphones

At CES 2023, Samsung unveiled smartphone OLED panels that achieved a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. This OLED display panel has UDR or Ultra Dynamic Range and was also certified by UL solutions. The new display also brings a much better visual experience.

“The brightness of a display is a factor that has a great influence on the consumer experience of smartphone image quality and performance,” said Hojung Lee, Head of Product Planning Team for Small and Medium-sized Display Division at Samsung Display. “With its distinctive technology and business experience in the OLED field, Samsung Display will continue to lead the market with differentiated products based on consumer-oriented technology.”

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 series is likely to use Samsung’s new UDR smartphone display. It could also be exclusive to the S23 Ultra model. Now that UHD content consumption is on the rise, the brighter display will surely offer a richer content experience on smartphones.

Apple’s recently launched iPhone 14 series devices boast up to 2,000 nits of outdoor peak brightness. These phones use Samsung-made AMOLED displays.

Samsung is the biggest OLED panel manufacturer and supplier in the industry. So, this new display will bring smartphones with brighter smartphone displays in the coming months.
