Samsung PM9C1a

Samsung has unveiled its new high-performance SSD ‘PM9C1a’ which promises to improve computing and performance in laptops and PCs. PM9C1a is built with a 5nm controller and seventh-generation V-NAND. It will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.

Samsung PM9C1a SSD is ideal for demanding computing and gaming applications. It uses PCIe 4.0 interface and comes in M.2 form factor. Samsung promises 6,000 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 5,600MB/s sequential read and write speeds. That turns out to be the 1.6x faster sequential read speed and a 1.8x faster sequential write speed than the predecessor. It also boasts up to 70% more power efficiency per watt than its predecessor.

“Our new PM9C1a SSD will deliver a robust combination of superior performance, greater power efficiency, and increased security, which are the qualities that matter most to PC users,” said Yong Ho Song, Executive Vice President of Memory Solution Product & Development at Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to creating storage that satisfies the diverse and changing market requirements, as we continue to advance innovation in the PC SSD space.”

The SSD also supports the Device Identifier Composition Engine (DICE) security standard. DICE generates cryptographic keys inside the SSD for providing device authentication to protect against supply chain attacks.

The company has confirmed that the SSD will come in three sizes: 256GB (22 x 30mm), 512GB (22 x 42mm), and 1TB (22 x 80mm). Pricing and availability details have not been confirmed.
