After announcing Raptor Lake desktop CPUs in 2022, Intel now unveiled the new 13th gen HX-series for laptops at CES 2023. The new HX-series CPUs target gamers and creators. The top-end Core i9-13980HX is built for gaming laptops. There are also regular H-, P-, and U-series chips for mainstream laptops. The 13th-gen HX lineup scales down to the Core i5-13450HX.
Intel Core i9-13980HX is the top-end processor that features 24 cores and a boost speed of 5.6GHz. It is 11 percent faster in single-threaded tasks than last year’s top-end Core-i9 12900HK. In multithreaded work, Core i9-13980HX is 49 percent faster than Core i9 12900HK.
Intel Core i9-13950HX is similar but has a 5.5 GHz boost frequency for the P-core and 4.0GHz for E-cores. Core i9-13900HX drops frequencies to 5.4 GHz for the P-core turbo and 3.9 GHz for the E-core turbo.
These CPUs support up to 128GB of both DDR4 (up to 3,200MHz) and DDR5 (up to 5,600MHz) RAMs. These tips also support Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and Thunderbolt.
The Core i7-13850HX CPU features 20 cores with a P-core turbo of 5.3 GHz and a base frequency of 2.1 GHz. The Core i7-13700HX has 16 cores and Core i7-13650HX has just 14 cores.
The Intel Core i5 processors include two 14-core SKUs. The Core i5-13450HX has a 10-core SKU with a 4.6 GHz P-core turbo and 2.4 GHz base frequency.
The 13th Gen Core processors are designed to benefit from Intel Thread Director. These CPUs come with a basic integrated GPU based on Intel’s Xe-LP architecture and are meant to be paired with a discrete GPU.
Intel also announced new additions to its 13th Gen desktop processors. The company introduced new 35- and 65-watt chips for mainstream desktop PCs with a promise of balanced p power efficiency and performance.
