Google announces YouTube Courses in India

At Google for India 2022 event, Google also announced YouTube courses in beta. It will be a subscription-based model with a few partners and creators. The company plans to launch YouTube Courses in the first half of 2023 but didn’t confirm the exact date.

Under YouTube Courses, a select group of qualified creators will offer free and paid Courses to provide in-depth learning to viewers. LearnoHub, Speak English With Aishwarya, and Telusko are a few of the selected creators who will develop courses across academic and vocational subjects in several Indian languages during the beta phase.

YouTube is already a big learning platform where educators are creating tutorial videos to teach different subjects and skills. People can learn anything from algebra to zumba. Google confirmed that there are more than 60 million YouTube videos related to digital skills or subjects that are taught in Indian schools.

Ajay Vidyasagar, Director – Southeast Asia & Emerging Markets, YouTube also talked about the latest findings by Oxford Economics. The findings reveal that YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed over Rs 10,000 Cr to the Indian GDP in 2021.
