In its latest earning reports, Sony confirmed it sold around 3.3 million PlayStation 5 units this quarter. If we count all the numbers Sony revealed in the past, the company has sold over 25 million PlayStation 5 units since the launch. Sent has sold around 5.7 million PS5s since the beginning of this financial year and it is really far behind its target of selling 18 million PS5s by March 2023.
Sony’s executive deputy president and CFO Hiroki Totoki still believe that the company could meet its expectations.
The Game & Network Services division of Sony reported Q2 revenues of ¥720.7 billion ($4.88 billion). However, Sony’s profits are down 49 percent due to an increase in game development and acquisition costs.
Sony sold over 62.5 million games including 6.7 million first-party games in the quarter. Around 63% of games were sold in digital copies.
The company also confirmed to have 45.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you compare it with previous numbers, PlayStation Plus subscribers were down about 2 million year-over-year. Although subscribers declined, the gaming division saw revenue rise by 10%
The company also reported 102 million monthly active users which also dropped from 104 million monthly active users during the same quarter last year. This is also Sony’s lowest monthly active users figure since the company began sharing this data in early 2022.
God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to launch on November 9 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This is a big release and will surely help Sony.
