Microsoft PC Manager is Microsoft’s CCleaner alternative

Microsoft PC Manager

Microsoft quietly released a Windows app called PC Manager in China. Due to limited availability, we didn’t get much information about it. This app gives users an idea of PC health with options to learn temporary files, manage running apps, and more. The app feels similar to CCleaner which is popular among Windows users.

A Twitter user @ALumia_Italia also shared the screenshots of the app and confirmed that the app has been available for months but in limited regions. Microsoft has now submitted the app to the Microsoft store but the app is still not available in search results. You can get access to it only if you have the direct link. Microsoft also has an official page for PC Manager but it is in Chinese.

Microsoft PC Manager checks startup apps, updates, runs disk cleanup, and other does other optimizations. Most functions are already available in Windows, but this new app brings all those into one place. The storage manager lets you manage apps and remove those apps that you rarely use. The process manager lets you check running processes and quickly kill processes to clean RAM. The Boost button is there to clear temporary files and free up memory.

This app also tried to push Edge. In several places, the app recommends setting Edge as the default browser. An average non-techie user can easily be motivated to make Edge the default browser for having an optimized PC.

Several people believe that Microsoft PC Manager is just adware for Edge. It is because the app doesn’t bring any new functionality. It only curated existing Windows features in one place but recommends users Edge again and again.

I have not yet checked the app. So I cannot comment on this. When I get back to my Windows PC, I will surely try the app to see if it really adds value or is just a way to promote Edge.
