MediaTek has unveiled a new mid-tier chipset dubbed Dimensity 1080. The new SoC is the successor to Dimensity 920 and promises to bring improved performance, better efficiency, and better camera capabilities.
Dimensity 1080 is manufactured on TSMC’s N6 6nm manufacturing node. It has an octa-core CPU that includes two ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. It includes Arm Mali G68 GPU.
The SoC supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The ISP used in this SoC supports 4K HDR video encoding, up to quad cameras, and up to 200MP image capture with zero shutter lag.
It has the same HyperEngine 3.0 that was used in Dimensity 920. The SoC supports sub-6GHz 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6.
Devices powered by Dimensity 1080 will start shipping in Q4 of 2022.
