Back in Match, a developer Jane Manchun Wong found references to podcasts in Twitter’s code. A few months later, the company began testing the redesigned interface with Podcasts. Last month, the company confirmed to integrate podcasts into Twitter with redesigned Spaces.

Twitter introduced Spaces as an audio platform where users could have live audio conversations. An unlimited number of users could join Space for listening to conversations. Now when Podcasts are really popular, the company decided to integrate them into Spaces which is already a section for audio-only conversations.

The new design of Spaces includes personalized hubs with different content themes like music, news, sports, and others. Users listening to a podcast will have the option to like and dislike the content. This will improve recommendations and content on the platform.

Twitter claims that nearly 45 percent of its users listened to podcasts. So, entering into the Podcasts section will surely help the company boost engagement on the platform.

The company is now introducing Podcasts to Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS. If you join the experimental feature in Twitter Blue Labs, you can listen to curated audio and podcasts offered in the Spaces section. Twitter Blue is a paid membership. Twitter Blue costs $4.99 and is available in limited regions. The service is not yet available in India.

Twitter Blue subscription brings several exclusive features such as the ability to upload longer and higher resolution videos, set up an NFT profile photo, ad-free articles, bookmarks folder, themes, custom icons, undo tweet feature, Tweet edit feature, and more. The company has decided to offer all the new features first to Blue subscribers to encourage users to get the Blue subscription. This is the reason Podcasts are coming to Blue subscribers.
