Qualcomm just announced two new mobile platforms Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 4nm and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 6nm for mi-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 promises up to 40% faster processing compared to Snapdragon 695 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 promises up to 15% improved CPU as compared to Snapdragon 480.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the successor to Snapdragon 695. It features an octa-core processor that includes 4 x A78-based Kryo Prime CPUs clocked at up to 2.2GHz and 4 x A55-based Kryo Efficiency CPUs clocked at 1.8GHz. This SoC is built on 4nm process technology.
It also features the 12-bit Spectra Triple ISP supporting 200 MP cameras, native HDR image capturing, HDR videos, hardware-based multi-frame noise reduction, AI-based face detection, auto-focus, and auto-exposure. It also has some advanced AI capabilities. The SoC also offers 4K HDR video recording at 30 fps and slow-mo 720p video recording at 240 fps.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 includes a 4th Gen Snapdragon X62 5G modem, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and Bluetooth 5.2 with LE Audio.
The SoC includes Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ support for fast charging.
If we compare it with its predecessor Snapdragon 695, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 brings 35% improved GPU performance and up to 40% improved CPU performance.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 1
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 supports up to FHD+ 120Hz on-device display. It is a 6nm chip with 64-bit Kryo CPU. The SoC has 2x Cortex-A78 cores and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores. It has Adreno GPU with Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2.0 API support. The SoC supports LPDDR4X RAM along with eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.2 storage.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 also has Spectra Triple ISP that offers support for up to three 13MP cameras, a 25MP + 13MP dual camera system, or a single 32MP camera.It can also record 1080p Single Video at 60FPS, 1080p Dual Video at 30FPS, 720p Slow Motion Video at 120FPS, and HEIC Photo capture.
It also has Snapdragon X51 5G modem to offer 5G connectivity. Wi-Fi 5 support and Bluetooth 5.2.
It supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ for fast charging.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will will be available globally before the end of this quarter and the company has yet to confirm the availability details of Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.
